This week the Americans with Disabilities Act is thirty years old. I ‘m happy to celebrate such a visionary piece of legislation.
In honor of the anniversary, Lori Alexander and I have teamed up to give away copies of our books. I hope you’ll enter! Information below.
In the meantime, here are some links about the ADA that I found inspiring this week. Enjoy!
- Intersection of the disability rights movement with the Black Lives Matter movement.
- “In Their Own Words: How the Americans with Disabilities Act has Changed People’s Lives.“
- “When the Capitol Crawl Dramatized the Need for the Americans with Disabilities Act.”
- Celebration of ADA Art. Beautiful, funny, moving.
- Accessible fashion.
- Crip Camp is a movie made by the Obamas’ new production company about the history of the disability rights movement. It tells the story from the point of view of the teenagers who grew up to be important activists. Raw language means it’s adult viewing. I loved watching it! Trailer here and the movie is available on Netflix.

We here at Disability Network SW Michigan are huge fans of “All the Way to the Top”. Wondering when it might be available in Spanish??
Thank you! And you ask a great question! I’ll pass your question on to the publisher, who is the one who has the rights to translations.
